Bio Note:

I am a Ph.D. candidate, Teaching Assistant, and Instructor at the University of California, San Diego. My primary research is focused on the Medieval (or Eastern) Roman state, especially during the period of the Macedonian Dynasty (867 to 1056). More specifically, I investigate expressions and perceptions of Romanness as an ethnic identity and in the Roman representation of "others." I am also undertaking research on "Middle Byzantine" Hagiography, the archaeology of Medieval Greece, the 5th-century letter collection of Aeneas of Gaza, and the ancient Greek historian Herodotus.
