The University of Southern Mississippi offers graduate assistantships.
Special Library Strengths: The Cook Library at USM has a growing collection to support our concentration areas in War & Society studies. Of special importance is the USM Vietnam War Archive Collection at the USM McCain Library and Archives. The collection is a growing source of research interest into the Vietnam War.
The War & Society program at USM also boasts active study abroad components through which students are able to conduct primary research at the Public Record Office and the Imperial War Museum in London. Students can also conduct research in Vietnam.
An important partner of USM's Center for the Study of War and Society is the university's award-winning Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage. The oral history program boasts a collection of hundreds of interviews focused on the American experience of war. A collaborator with the Library of Congress's Veterans History Project, the Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage not only collects and preserves these oral histories, but develops curriculum, produces radio segments, sponsors exhibits, and stages public programming supporting the broader educational mission of Center for the Study of War and Society.
