Special Library Strengths:
George Mason University is home to the Center for History and New Media, which has several ongoing digital archive projects, including the Papers of the War Department, 1784-1800. Our library is also home to the Milton Barnes Civil War Collection; the Alexander Haight Civil War Collection; the Francis J. McNamara Collection regarding anticommunism in the Cold War; and the John W. Burton Collection regarding conflict resolution in the 20th century, among others. Located in the Washington, DC, area, Mason is close to the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian Institution, as well as regional archives like the Virginia and Maryland historical societies. George Mason University is a member of the the Washington Research Library Consortium, which grants students library privileges at every major DC-area university.
