Bio Note:
Luke received his BA (honors) from Trinity College, University of Dublin and his MA from Hunter College, City University of New York. He is currently a member of Darwin College, University of Cambridge pursuing an M.Phil in Historical Studies with focus on the first 30 years of British Hong Kong. His M.Phil work is the natural continuation of his MA thesis (The Shadow of the Flag: Military Occupations and Military Modernization in the British Army, 2011), which explored the evolution of British military occupation via the examination of the early stages of the occupations of New York (1776), Seringapatam (1799), and Toulouse (1814). He has presented seven conference papers (two at SMH), and, during his MA, was the recipient of both the Provost's Graduate Studies Award and the Paula Kaplowitz Enns Memorial Scholarship. He plans to continue his work on military occupation and to obtain his PhD.
